Life In The Eucharist
January 17-19, 2020
The Eucharist is the source and summit of our faith. In recent times, Catholics have witnessed and lived through an unprecedented reform of our entire sacramental system. The renewal of the liturgy invites us to enjoy full, conscious and active participation in the rites of our church, especially, the celebration of the Eucharist.
Life in the Eucharist is designed to empower adults to:
Deepen a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
Acquire a broader intellectual appreciation of the Eucharist
Join us on this retreat weekend as we explore the liturgical richness of the Mystery of the Eucharist and how it applies to daily life. Learn how the Eucharist nourishes, reconciles and transforms us to dwell in the abiding presence of God as we live out our mission in Christ.
Check in begins at 4:00pm on Friday, January 17th in the Administration Building. The retreat begins with dinner at 5:30pm in our St. John the Apostle Building and concludes with 11:30am Mass in our Chapel on Sunday, January 19th.
Cost includes all meals, beginning with dinner on Friday through breakfast Sunday.
Key themes presented:
God’s love as Nourishment in Jesus Christ
The celebration of the Eucharist is a communal meal event during which God’s hungry creation is fed with the Food of eternal life – Jesus Christ – in Word and Sacrament. Jesus is our food for the journey toward the Kingdom of God.
God’s love as Reconciliation in Jesus Christ
The entire celebration of the Eucharist is a reconciling event for the faith community. We go to Eucharist not to have our sins forgiven, but rather to receive and experience the reconciliation that is ours in the proclamation of the Word and in the remembering of Christ’s passion, death and resurrection.
God’s love as Transformation in Jesus Christ
The celebration of the Eucharist unites us to Christ and allows his message and self-giving love to transform our lives. Transformation is at the heart of the Paschal Mystery in which we become a new creation and are sent out from the Eucharist to bring into the world that which we have received.
God’s love as Abiding Presence in Jesus Christ
Christ is truly present in The Eucharist. With eyes of faith and ears open to the Word of God, Christ continues to abide with us, and invites us to enter into a prayer of intimacy to deepen and extend the graces offered to us in the celebration of the Eucharist. This session will focus on contemplation, especially as it relates to prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.
God’s love as Mission in Jesus Christ
The focus of this session is the role the Eucharist plays in the conversion-to-justice process that is the Gospel prerequisite to genuine communion with the suffering. Those who are called to the heavenly banquet are those who have shared what they have with others and attended to the needs of the least of God’s people. This session ends with participation in the celebration of Eucharist at 5:00pm.
