San Damiano Society with Fr. Ben Berinti, CPPS

This event was formerly known as ‘Senior Day’. The day’s format will remain the same, only the name has changed. We will still have breakfast, our speaker, lunch, and Mass.

On the Feast Day of St. Kateri Tekakwitha, first U.S. Native American Saint, we will explore the fascinating spiritual life and wisdom of another Native American Servant of God, Nicholas Black Elk (1863—1950). We’ll uncover how one deeply spiritual man, could serve as both a traditional Oglala Lakota medicine man and a Roman Catholic catechist and mystic; how these two spiritual and cultural identities enriched his prayer life; and how his commitment to God, understood through his Lakota and Catholic communities, shaped his understanding of how to be in the world.
