“From Joseph to Jesus”
Encountering Matthew's Inspired Model of Masculinity, Discipleship, and Collaboration
with Karl A. Schultz
Recognizing the 150 year anniversary of St. Joseph being proclaimed Patron of the Universal Church by Pope Pius IX, Pope Francis recently declared December 8, 2020 to be the inauguration of a year of St. Joseph. This dovetails nicely with the upcoming Third Sunday in Ordinary Time which a year ago Pope Francis proclaimed “Sunday of the Word of God”, intending it to be a year long and not just a yearly observance.
In the wake of these two timely initiatives, we will ponder the profound testimony of Joseph's inspired herald, St. Matthew, for whom Joseph, along with John the Baptist, is the bridge between the old and new covenants. We will reflect upon Matthew's witness alongside that of the other evangelists in order to obtain a deeper awareness of the humanity of St. Joseph, the Gospels, Jesus, and ourselves.
Coffee and danish are served at 9:00 am. The program begins at 9:30 am followed by lunch. Mass ends the day!
**At San Pedro, we are practicing social distancing and regularly cleaning all surfaces. Please bring your own face covering for use indoors.
