What is AUDIRE?
Audire : School For Spiritual Direction

AUDIRE is a Latin word meaning "to listen." Audire is a three-year formation program that introduces a person to the ministry of spiritual direction. The program consists of several components: classroom instruction, assigned reading, journalism, written papers, prayer, supervision, and practice. The program provides solid, Christian education, formative experiences in Christian spirituality, and opportunities to increase listening skills. The goal of the program is to help people discern their gifts and to acquire the necessary skills to be effective ministers of a contemplative-evocative approach to spiritual direction.

Who may attend AUDIRE?

The first year of audire is open to anyone who desires to grow in self-awareness, to broaden their experience of God, to increase their appreciation for differences and to develop a contemplative attitude. Applicants must be engaged in an ongoing, regular spiritual direction relationship.

Applicants come from a variety of religious traditions and professional backgrounds. Some applicants are professional ministers, clergy, or religious; most are dedicated Christian men and women who, in their regular work, find themselves called upon to actively listen to others.

Presuppositions

Applicants must:
• Have the ability to do a college-level study and reflective writing.
• Possess emotional stability, spiritual maturity and good health.
• Exhibit a stable lifestyle and sufficient financial means.
• Be committed to ongoing spiritual growth, regular prayer, and active ministry.
• Be engaged in regular spiritual direction for at least a year.
• Anticipate sufficient flexibility in time to allow full participation in the program.
